Galaxy Digital and TIME partner to put a spotlight on the metaverse

Galaxy Digital, a financial services and investment company focused on digital assets, has partnered with TIME to feature entrepreneurs that are active in the metaverse and educate the public about this emerging sector.

The metaverse concept gained widespread attention recently when Facebook announced that it was rebranding to Meta to show its commitment to the metaverse. While there isn’t an agreed-upon definition of the term “metaverse”, it’s typically used to describe virtual worlds that exist alongside the real world. While Facebook’s big rebranding generated a lot of excitement around the concept, it also raised serious concerns related to user privacy that Facebook and other big tech firms have been facing for a while now.

Proponents of cryptocurrency and blockchain argue that the tech can help users maintain their privacy in the virtual world and have true ownership over their data and assets without having to rely on centralized entities like Meta.

TIME is known for its lists of influential people, entrepreneurs and companies and different sectors. Thanks to the partnership with Galaxy Digital, TIME will also be featuring a list of the 100 most influential companies in the metaverse sector, and will also be producing educational resources explaining the metaverse and the most important developments related to it.

Here’s what Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz had to say about the partnership with TIME and his views on the future of the metaverse:

“Over the next decade, the metaverse will become an increasingly important part of the world economy; our physical and digital realities are already becoming hard to distinguish. We look forward to partnering with TIME, an iconic brand driving innovation, as we seek to bring readers, creators, and the curious into the metaverse and demystify the tremendous amount of transformation happening within.”

An interesting aspect of the partnership between Galaxy Digital and TIME is that Galaxy Digital is financing it with ETH, which TIME will be holding on its balance sheet. TIME has already been involved with cryptocurrency to some extent, as it accepts cryptocurrency payments for subscriptions and also released selected magazine covers as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
